Math and Art

Math and Art are very different but also very similar in many different ways. Regarding back to last weeks post Mathematics and Art are on different sides of the campus. How mathematics have evolved into art goes back in history. it all started with a term by Martin Ohm in 1835, the golden ratio but it was orignally called the "golden section."The golden ratio is generally used in art to create perfect symmetry. Examples of this golden ratio can be seen in the pyramids of Giza, the Parthenon of Athens, and the famous piece of artwork “The Vitruvian Man.” The golden ratio has aided artists in making the proportions of their artwork more realistic.

There were manny different artists that used mathematics in art, but one that used it extremely efficent was M.C. Escher. He was very fascinated with the essence of non-Euclidean geometries and also paradox and impossible figures. His work really composses two aspects: the geometry of space, and the logic of space.

From this weeks reading and lectures I learned that mathematics isnt just about an equation or a solution. Its much bigger then that, its in everyday life, and a huge aspect of what math is corporated into is art. Things that I have learned such as the Golden Ration and how M.C. Escher used math into his paintings and art sketches truly amazes me. Its natural that people all around take advantage of how math isn't used in everyday life but math is what our nation is ran on and art is an ellegance in which many people should appreciate.
